Winter Activities
The area took its first steps as a ski resort almost a century ago when British adventurers persuaded the local authorities to run their mountain railways in winter as well as summer so that they could serve as some of the world’s first ski lifts.
The cog railway trains from Wengen and Grindlewald up to Kleine Scheidegg (2,060m) are still one of the main forms of uphill transport in the region. Wengen is still popular with British and North American tourists and the resort appeals particularly to the middle-aged and families, although the nightlife here is livelier than you might expect.
Wengen is famous for its intimidating Lauberhorn Men’s Downhill course, the longest race on the World Cup circuit, held here every January. However on the whole the slopes are far from intimidating and are best suited to intermediate skiers/ boarders who like cruising and travelling a long distance. It is also a good place for beginners with nursery slopes in the village and long gentle blue runs to progress to. The apple fritter run to Brandegg is a must!
We look forward to joining you on the mountain for some great days out but please note we are not mountain guides or instructors. We will be more than happy to help you arrange instruction or guides if you wish. The local ski school runs classes for all abilities. Group lessons are from 10.00am to 1.00pm.
If you are considering lessons let us know your level when booking and we will aim to put together a private group of the same ability. We use the Privat Ski School run by Tino Fuchs who has a great team of highly qualified local instructors. We can assure you from personal experience this is the quickest and most fun way to learn!
We can also arrange for Tino to take us on a sledging run, by moonlight if the conditions are right, a great memory to share with friends new and old.
Other winter activities include: skating, snowshoe trekking & curling
